狄百瑞 生于1919年，哥伦比亚大学东亚语言与文化系教授，在国际汉学领域研究有很高的声望。曾经在中国的燕京大学和岭南大学从事研究，是堪称费正清第二的美国中国学泰斗级人物。主要著作有:《高贵与文明》（2004），《亚洲价值与人权》（1998），《为己之学》（1991），《东亚文明:五个阶段的对话》（1988），《中国的自由传统》（1983），编写了影响广泛的《中国传统资料选编》。
